We will soon be looking for a new 300 hp tractor, does anyone have experience of Case Optum tractors. Historically we ran Case Magnums and Quadtracs but always felt quality was a bit lacking backup however was good from Does and I have no doubt this is still true.
Really wanted a Fendt 828 but there are way too many horror stories to buy one.

Had ours coming up 5 years and not had any major issues apart from a new cat converter covered under warranty. Pulls a 7 furrow plough, Simba SL400 and a 6m combination drill.
Had a price to swap but will be keeping it as so far it’s been reliable and the price of new is obscene (as with everything)

Friend runs two of the blue versions. They are worked very hard with multiple drivers so not looked after like a one man band would. Always serviced on the dot though. In 4 years and a 5000 hours one has been no trouble but the other has had lots of trouble with the biggest issue being the gearbox. However that one does lots of buckraking on a clamp which he thinks caused the issue as its climbing and pushing all the time. The operators dont like the cramped cab but thats now been corrected on the new ones. I think I'd have one over a JD 7R as been there done that before and got the t-shirt with gearbox failure after 500 hours.

Had one for 3 years, no major issues except aircon which was a pain for first year. Windscreen gets so hot from engine you get cooked alive without aircon, even with windows open. Was resolved. Changed to JD 7r 290, mainly for greenstar which is far superior to any of the other GPS gadgetry. Simple to use, swap about from tractor to tractor/sprayer with no recalibration or issues. Boundary marking and headlands easy to do, nightmare on Trimble.
Optum is a good tractor and at least £30k less than JD or Fendt. Had new version on demo last week. Still good and has the best vario of any by a country mile! Cab still quite small though, despite enlargement. OMO of course!

a/c issue is well known and easily curable, though the dealers will shrug their shoulders.

As above windscreen gets very hot when working hard and air con only just manages if you’re wearing a t shirt. I believe the updated version has better air con

New cab is better, but still gets hot. The gang near me with a yard of Case's all run with a towel / rug drapped over the console in front the steering wheel.

On our 2nd one here. 6years in. Imo fantastic machine. Pulls very very well, versatile, great back up from Does. Negatives would be poor turning circle, lack of fridge, case telematics is OK but not there yet. Had a few small issues but all been sorted quickly and under warranty. Haven't really noticed the hot cab tbh. Any questions fire away but I'm a big fan of the Optum.

The new afs connect Optum looks lovely but pricey. I'd prefer if case kept doing what they were doing and not try to compete with perhaps more premium brands...its not really their market imo

New cab isn’t much better than the original cab imo. Missed a trick there

Surely a 300hp tractor should be in a big frame so a magnum would be better? Our old 310 was a great tractor.
If you want 300hp boost for pto work get the new Puma 260 as you get the smaller frame and the hp you need.

I must admit, that my experience with Greenstar is that it's better than no GPS, but basically pretty poor, not very easy to use and an awful signal. However, it is in a nice box with pretty little icons in it, so it must be good....
