As per title, our Puma 185 is showing a problem with the electronic handbrake not releasing. Error code is 12213. Anyone know what this refers to, as I cannot find a list of codes in the manual.

Oh my favourite error code whilst we had ours!

If I remember correctly.... Hold the shuttle button in, with the clutch pedal down, switch ignition on and leave for 10 seconds or so and you should hear it release

Thanks for that. I'll give that a go in the morning. It went wrong on the most important job. Pulling the shoot trailer on beaters day!

Ours used to be terrible. We always used to pull ours across the gate on a slight bank and think if we let it roll a bit whilst putting it into park then it scrambled it's head

Had it recently, apparently it had lost calibration so wouldn't release, dealer sorted it by plugging a plug into the socket on the back right hand pillar which allows you to access some menu's to re calibrate it, next time I'll try BAC's way

An error for the park brake comes up on my mates puma 160 atm could be same error not sure he get around it by pressing the brakes and taking shuttle out of park and into forward then it releases, but you have to put it in and out again to clear the code.

It only Seams to do it when the tractors cold and it's a bit slower at starting up seaming like a voltage drop on start up causes it ?

Same kind of method I suggest, I haven't done it for nearly 2 years.

Well that is what ours turned out to be in the end, we put a new battery on one of them and it seemed to sort the issue!

I had a loan Puma 230 that kept doing this two years ago while mine was in being fixed, the dealer had to keep coming out and recalibrating the handbrake. Unfortunately that particular tractor was also engaging the handbrake at random intervals whilst in work too, particularly painful on the ribs when you come to a dead stop in a hurry and hit the steering wheel while subsoiling at 8kph or pulling a Germinator at 10kph!!!!!

Had that problem last week and as said before new battery job done, electronic park comes on when voltage drops below 11 v so I was told

Hate to bring up a very very old thread but has anyone got this problem sorted without a dealer getting involved, doubt mine will be open until the new year and my Puma has just put this code 12213 up this morning, won’t move or anything, I’ll try BAC’s method in the morning.

Pretty sure 12188 is excessive pad wear. It can be cheated by adjusting the bolt on the lever on the side of the transmission, but you really need to calibrate it at the same time.

Not technically cheating it, that’s the exact correct way to fix it! The code states is excessive paid wear, it’s actually just excessive movement from the motor to apply it, so can be a cable stretching over time or something similar. This code is incredibly common, not helped in my opinion by the ridiculous tension it applies, doesn’t need anywhere need the pull the motor gives.

True, the actuator does put a ridiculous amount of pressure on it! Its a bit of a naff setup really. Am I right in saying the optum has a hydraulic actuator?

Not sure on that, I will look into it! Not sure why they’d use hydraulic though, the electric motor, while not perfect, has proved to be reasonably effective.
