Case tractor injection pump water damage!

Friends Mxu115 tractor is running, but rough and splutering with exessive fuel . Admmited theres water in the pump! My thoughts are to take the pump apart and probably clean it out as some timing, governor ,or cold start exess part is probably stuck. Bosch ve pump, none eletrical, with the turbo boost valve on the top. Any tips? Cos there's nothing to loose. Another question, removing and timing the pump, how? The engine is the FPT 6.7 litre ,6 cylinder common to new holland and case etc, 2003 year model. Thanks.

Clean fuel, new filters and a good dash of ATF oil directly into the fuel filter. If there’s damage done then it’s done. No point faffing about stripping and cleaning it.

Other method a lot are doing is two stroke oil into fuel filter to lubricate things. You’ve got nothing to loose. Regarding timing I woukd guess from age of tractor that it wont have timing marks or keyway on shaft therefore you will need engine at TDC compression and lock the pump

Timing on the pump is done using a dti to measure plunger lift. eg 1mm plunger lift at 8deg btdc. You have to take a plug out between the injector ports and use a special tool.
If theres water in the pump I would hazard a guess something is stuck like the plunger or control sleeve or could be delivery valve/s behind the high pressure outlet fittings either way it will be off to the diesel shop. would be worth taking the injectors out and checking the spray pattern to rule them out, might detect a fuel pump problem too.

Been putting 2stroke oil into fuel for few years now on my 2 David browns ,they do seem to run a bit better with it ,

I know it sounds a bit odd ,but I've known them splutter about and pour out white smoke when the fuel filter was blocked. Probably already changed it though if its had water in the fuel.
