Update
Lost two more this last week all nasal swabs and bloods have come back negative not sure where we go from here vets and drugs company all scratching their heads .
Got another which looks like it's going to kick the bucket so will take it to the Via centre and hopefully they may be able to find something.

Nasal swabs and bloods unlikely to be helpful. Need to flush samples from the lungs and see what is actively involved.

There will be something. A treated and dead animal is unlikely to add much.

Any thoughts on what that something maybe?
Micro plasma

Bacteria

Also it depends what tests were used and on what samples. I like deep lung samples as it reflects where the problem is. Some testing interfered with by various means

Will you be able to start a thread or share the results on here

Yes. Or I can just private message them to you when we have something.

I had similar problem with calves at grass this summer. Thought it was worm burden as I'd used pour on all summer so injected with dectomax seemed to help but still had bad coughing and out breaks of phenomenon . Treated for fluke cause nothing else worked mixed zanil with meal and fed at trough 3 days later remarkable difference who would have thought might be worth a try. I lost 4 and nearly gave up hope on rest.

Had another snuff it Thursday night
Took it to the Vi centre Friday morning .They have been in touch and said that it had a lung worm count of over 3000.
This is despite been dectomaxed about a month ago and the faeces samples we sent off coming back negative .
They say we must have dectomax resistant worm.
We have done them again with an alternative product hopefully this will sort it.
One question should I let them back out onto the dirty pasture which they have been running on?
Cheers

Awful lot of slugs about if our wheats after rape are anything to go by.
Think I'm right in saying that it's these little buggers that carry lung worm!

Not so sure about drug resistance think it's a load of ball made up by drug companies cause they don't put the goodies in the products they used too. Norbrook rep told me ivermectin only covered for 2 weeks with heavy burden

What was the alternative product?

No clean pasture, but its airborne so could be anywhere on the farm.

Glad you have an answer. I wonder if the Dectomax was enough to make the worms sick so no larvae found in the faeces despite a patent infection.

(You'd find these with the lung fluid collection, I mentioned previously)

@jed dog lungworm is spread by slugs, cow lungworm doesn't have an intermediate host

Thanks Bovine
We dosed them with Cydectin
Interesting choice, hoping no cross resistance. I would have gone with levamisole pour on or a white drench, depending on handling facilities. I also hope someone is going to report the product failure as this is important.

Got to admit I did wander if it was the correct choice when I was at the local farm supplier but the lad behind the counter who sells the stuff day in day out said I should use the cydectin the active been moxidectin.
Will have a chat with vets in morning.
