Had a good day there today, drove straight in at 9 from the M1
Lovely site, rubbish droughted out plots and just about enough interest until mid afternoon when it started emptying
I’ll go to my local NIAB trials day next week to look at meaningful plots

It’s feeling a lot better than recent efforts but needs a few more exhibitors

The working plots/dust creation projects where largely a waste of time

Happy to have gone though

You could certainly tell AHDB had their wings clipped. The big grand stand used to dominate cereals, now shoved away in a little corner.
I thought that considering the amount of money they get from us the ahdb stand was a joke. Not that many years ago at cereals the ahdb was the centre of cereals with all literature available and great trial plots with talks. It's now a small tent that provides naff all. Disgrace imo

Went yesterday after going for the first time last year and I think it's a really great show as you get such a variety of stuff. I like trial plots as you get to see everything (we went to look at hybrid barley for the first time) even though it had droughts off and completely different soil to ours it gives you some ideas to lookout for at local trials.
I also like a lot of the trade stands that aren't just shiny new tractors like insurance brokers, drainage contractors and after market parts that you don't always get chance to see elsewhere particularly as it seems to draw some smaller companies out within a large radius.
Loads of free food and drink everywhere and lots of good people to chat to.

Traffic from the A1 was a complete mere but thankfully gave up after 40 minutes queueing and took a 10 min detour round and was straight in.

Perhaps it's easy in hindsight but didn't the organisers know it was a drought prone site and think about applying water to the plots, it's not like it's hundreds of acres that need to be done, after all the rain up to April it was not hard to guess that it would flip into a drought

Personally I didn’t think the plots were that bad. Not as green as normal but what crops are this year. Everything is 10-14 days earlier than normal and high diseased wheat has about lost leaf 3 on most soils up here.

Left our hotel in Bawtry at 8.30 this morning and was walking in to the show at 9am, no queues and parking was easy.

Was nice to see a different site and conditions, even if the lack of rain meant the plots were a bit stressed! Hospitality around the show was decent and everyone seemed very relaxed which was nice.

At every show there is talk of the manufacturers which aren't in attendance but to be honest I thought there was plenty to see anyway.

Got home to Somerset at about 10pm after a feed half way home, all in all a good few days👍
