Change of use

We are looking at putting a pre fab container office to run as a dog grooming parlour, we would be putting the container on ag land within the farm yard but there is a block of offices next to it so ample parking.
It’s in view of a foot path but can’t be seen from houses or road.
Can I just apply for change of use on the land a put the container on it or do I need to go for a different type of planning?

Apply for change of use at the same time as for the siting of the container. Keep the red line on the application form.tight to the area that will be used for the business i.e the location of the container and the parking for the business.

Thank you do you know which forms these are, I’ve tried ‘prior approval: change of use - agriculture to flexible commercial use’ but as there is no existing building and the area is less than 15sq m it won’t let me proceed?

I would suggest are you are technically constructing a building (the container) then you need to apply for full planning permission and seek Change of Use as part of that application.
I would suggest titling the application "Partial Change of Use of Agricultural Land for the siting of a movable structure for use as a commercial dog grooming parlour".

Okay thank you for your advice I really appreciate it.
Would it make any difference if we were to put the container inside an open fronted pole barn, it’s currently used as an agricultural building for storing a trailer and a hedge trimmer or would we still need to go for full planning?

If that was the case you should go down the Prior Approval route for part of the building.
