Cheapest way to store slurry?

Lagoon or tower?

IIRC our slurry pit holds approx 100,000 gals and needs emptying every 6 to 8 weeks. We could do with storage for an extra 2/300,000 gals to see us through the winter. This would enable us to make better use of the slurry and avoid breaking the new NVZ rules.

Any suggestions?

Can you just dig a pit now ?
Or do you have to have planing and do it all Properly

It depends on if you get caught and if it all goes Pete tong if slurry would end up in water. If your no where near a water course and fairly confident it isn’t going to get through I would risk it. If you think there is any chance what so ever of damage to environment go the proper channels

How would a 50ft x 50ft + 15ft foot thinck concrete walled/floor tank in the ground compair price wise to the equivalent 250000gal above ground steel tank.?
You can get precast sectional tanks , that are easier installed , and could be removed if no longer required

I was quoted £55000 for a 300000 gal tank a few yrs ago. That was for a pre prepared hardcore base. Quote included tank, foundations, erection, 6 inch outlet and a ladder and platform

Tower gives you the option to have a cover over it which has the double benefit of keeping rainfall out & volatile ammonia in. As we are seeing increased frequent heavy downpours this may be a consideration.
However it will be more expensive. IIRC, a lined hole is about £20/ cube stored & a tower around £30/cube. The tower may also give you option of expanding it by adding rings which would be difficult with a lined hole.
The cheapest option of all (other than selling/reducing stock) is if you have blue clay on the farm which will not need lining
