I have been DD'ing for a neighbour for past two years. He now wants to spread chicken muck on in rotation and he is concerned that chicken muck MUST be incorpoated. Leaving FYM on the top has worked a treat for me does anyone know the law.
Pretty sure there is something to say it has to be incorporated within 24hrs of being spread. If that was me id be incorporating it straight behind the spreader, N is lost immediately from spreading and needs to be incorporated asap to risk loosing alot more.
Sorry but when we spread fert we dont incorporate it.
If it has to be incorporated what depth should it be mixed into?
Chicken muck has some OM in it does this help hold onto the voatile N?
Has any work been done on N losses in different application methods and length of time muck is stored.
Yes incorporation should take place as soon as possible after application, and with 24hrs. Not sure how much N is lost straight away cos they do say that only half of the N is available on the first year and the remainder in the second. We have a lot of layers manure and it is good stuff. Analysed at 12:18:18 per tonne so worth putting up with a bit of a smell!
