As above, the process of constructing a 117 metre by 23 metre 32'000 bird free range laying house. Pictures to follow over the next few months.

Bentley looking miserable as an access road and parking pad are constructed, he isn't a big fan of the digger.

Proper sized digger arrived to excavate the sprayed off grass area in order to lay the sub base:

Stanbury and Sons are doing the groundworks, Harlows the shed and Big Dutchman (Newquip) the equipment.

Cracking on today, hauling in and spreading the crushed brick and taking the topsoil off, nice to have some kit at work after months of planning.

Yes it's a Wooton, picked it up from a farmer who was retiring a few years back, it's in immaculate nick, only ever used on cereals and stored under cover..... Until I got a bit pressed for time and used it for topsoil!

It only did a bit while the old baileys trailers were hauling crushed brick, lesser of the two evils. Topsoil is earmarked to fill an old ditch it. Poultry are ours.

we have a harlows hen shed 60 years + and still good it had everything in it over the years

we have had new citreons old classic cars and now a furniture maker in ours lot better than keeping chicks with neighbours over the road

Yeah we've had a Harlow shed for 12 years now, the steel sheds do probably wear better cosmetically but the beauty of the Harlow shed is that when someone clouts a post or door frame mucking out, you can repair it with a trip to the wood yard, hammer and nails.

Several years, some of which will be good years and some of which will make you wonder why you bothered. Sorry not to be more specific but the supply chain knows far too much about the producers costs as it is without helping them further!

Missed this thread until now. How are you laying out the shed? Newquip rep was pushing 32k birds in a single row with egg room at one end here.

That would be a long shed?

16k birds either side of a central dividing wall running lengthways.

Sorry didn't make myself clear enough, sounds like the same system. You're having a Natura 362 with 3 rows of nest boxes each side and the system split by the central wall? Newquip rep took me to see one (extended former 16k flat deck shed) but that had a sheeted cross partition half way down instead with separate feed chains and water lines for each half the shed, due to popholes only on one side.
