China

I guess anyone could be a danger if they decide to and have the means to be.
A lot of reports on China will no doubt be fake news, it can't all be true.

Don't we want to trade with them?
You surprise me. The received wisdom, recognised as fact by the vast majority of the democratic - free - world, is that China is a brutal dictatorship that cares little for the well-being of it's own people, and still less for others.

I am sure one could find some stories that are made up, possibly even some from China's own services to allow them to be disproven. But if obviously ridiculous things are ignored, and without straying from the mainstream (~reliable) media, you will find a never-ending stream of verifiable stories, all cataloguing horrible things in / from / by China.

It really can all be true.

What part surprises you? That I don't believe everything in the media?

Since some reports contradict others, which means it's impossible for them all to be true.

I don't / didn't take you for someone who'd waste time on obviously daft 'stories', so presumed you would only give attention to credible news media. That being so, l'll be interested to see examples of contradictory reports...

It's not just China at this sort of thing. Other countries do it even if it does not appear in the press.

Forced hysterectomies at immigration detention centres I find hard to believe in all honesty. This is going down the road toward Nazi crimes against humanity.

There was a policy in China some years ago of having only 1 child .. not sure how that was policed.

The policies in the 80's and later were largely focused on family planning I understand but it was backed by fines (based on family income) if you chose to have more than one child. The policies in the 50's and 60's were far more draconian I understand but I don't know details.

I think the situation in China with a declining birthrate these days is probably mirroring that in developed countries- as people became wealthier or more affluent they just have fewer children.
