Christmas 2016 may be the cheapest ever

"According to an index that tracks seasonal food, the price of Christmas dinner is now at its lowest since it started in 2009."

For a Christmas Dinner that cost £37 a head last year, the cost in 1975 would have been nearly £55
How much!
Admittedly I don't do much of the shopping or cooking but I'd be amazed if it cost us £37 for 3.............with Turkey left over for sandwiches at night and Boxing Day. Perhaps someone needs to enlighten me on how much a turkey will cost but I know a £16 lump of beef does Sunday dinner, sandwiches at night and Monday dinner. A£6 bag of spuds, £4 net of carrots and £4 net of swedes last several weeks. Last cauliflowers I bought were 2 for a £, cabbage was 90p, get several meals out of them.

I'm not going to guess at the price of fruit to make Christmas pud, just how much booze do they put in the rum sauce and brandy butter?

Some folk must live pretty extravagantly if the average is £37 head.

Good food is cheap, very cheap
Good food is ridiculously cheap. Unfortunately I don't think the consumers appreciate just how cheap it is and often they don't even recognise good food.
As for producing it, I like doing the job but I can't make sense of it. I can buy stuff in the supermarket at less than I can produce it for and I think I am pretty good at my job.

I doubt a lot of modern folk would recognise good food, too busy eating processed rubbish
