claas rollant 46 problems (net, knife, presser and sensor)

Just thought I would right this post to condense all the problems that I have had with a claas rollant 46, the bailer has been standing for a while which is the main cause of these problems.

The first problem was the net not cutting, which wasn't helped by a slightly rusted knife that I brushed up with a wire wheel and file; wasn't pretty but was more effective. However the main problem was spring for the knife, it did not have enough force to hold the knife up so the net would slip past and not cut. The spring is located in a cylinder located on the top left of the bailer, it is a simple case of taking a couple of split pins out, removing the spring and replacing it (spring £40). This is the easiest way to fix it however if you wanted to do it for cheaper, you may be able to place a spacer in with the spring to increase the tension; wouldn't recommend but would probably work.

second problem, the rubber feed roller. Was probable the most frustrating thing, a pain to fix and took a long time to get right. From knowing what I do now I would coat the rubber roller in oil a couple of times, this will be agzorwbed and you shouldn't have much excess to wipe of, this is only relevant if your roller is hard and dryer up; was the sole thing that made the most difference, wouldn't recommend talk because it made no difference. coating it in oil made the rubber just a bit softer and allowed the roller to grab the net just a bit better. however you also have to make sure that the tension on the roller with the two bolts with springs on are hand tight to its maximum, if not will probably not work. also make sure their is no rust where the net goes through it will cause friction, emery paper will take it off. furthermore the net, had to extend with some chain so their was less presser on the net; wasn't a great fix but was the only way I could get it to consistently work. I know their are better nets than other which can help the net pull through however this works with the net we have which is nothing special, also if you run the net without the tension arm down can help clear rust and reduce friction.

I hope this helps any one with theses problems, sorry for any spelling mistake and ask for any clarification if needed.

Well done for your patience with it .I used a rp12 yrs ago and had the same problems. It would work great when you were testing it after many adjustments .Then it would play up as soon as it was put to work. So it was back to the very slow string .Drove me daft
