I'm doing:
350 acres OSR
400 acres WW.
350 acres Spring Barley
150 acres Spring/Winter beans.

Your cropping will dictate the work pressures, and I set out to have the most efficient production system I could find, with an aim of less than 0.40 HP/ha (that's establishment/fert and spraying HP).

If seed is in the right place, and you're prepared to work a 14 hour drilling day, you'll cover 65/70 acres with no problems. 20 acre field sizes is perfect for a 3m, and there is very little down-time when the drill is out of the ground, backing into corners etc.

So, I'd say a 3m will comfortably do 1500 acres, and 2000 acres at a push. As for 1500 hectares, that would take some double driving!!

The drill is so simple. Set it up, and just go. And keep on going.

Happy to chat if you want, or come and have a look round.

If the horsepower is available a four metre would be more cost effective to run than a three. Well, it is for me anyway having had a 3 now on a 4, with small fields and travel time taken into account.

Same spot as previous pictures.

Cutting Spring barley at 13% mc. 68 kg/hl. 8.15 T/ha.

Pretty pleased indeed. I'll be keeping the drill.

Urm. Its on rtk. Have to bear with me as I have always had the ability to drive in a straight line so gps has never been an issue. But as the farm has it I may as well use it.

The unit in using will stay with me. Transferable between the tractor and sprayer. So I can set it up fully with the fields and keep all the info on it. At the moment boundries are not loaded or set. Can then set up on the sprayer.

Not with RTK
Your a/b line won't drift more than a couple of cm over a whole year, so your be ok nipping back to the yard to re feel!

Make sure whatever you are pulling is dead centre of the tractor. That means put washers beside the hook end balls in the drill and tighten up the sway blocks to keep the machine central.

Thanks. There are 3 greenstar machines. The big jd the sprayer and the smaller 7000 series jd. So 3 units.

But thinking about it i would.like to keep the rtk as the main unit so transfer it on what I'm using. As the only full time man I will be doing 99% of the work, spraying feet spinning, combining, drilling.

So keeping one unit to have all my info stored would be a plus for me. Then i can set up all the boundaries when spraying and its all there for harvest and drilling.

Can also set up in the combine.

had the Claydon rep come along today to show me setting up the drill.

it is a very simple machine to use. And callibration is very much the same as others.

one thing has me puzzled, on the headland run the 6m is set up on the bouts in a way that you need to overlap and double drill run 2 as its split to get the tramline system to run a tramline for the headland.

seems a bit of a fuffle to me. So just going to drill 2 runs straight and use the marker for the third, then run a a bit to the left of the marker line to leave a centerline pre emerg mark for the headland run.

running 24m tramlines. Do 3 runs on headland.

drill the middle of the field first and the headland last, especially if its a bit damp

Don't you end up dragging trash onto the last headland run doing that?
never had much problem with that but we bale everything, did some after maize for someone where mr brock had flattened somewhere it caused the odd lump but when I did the headland bout I ran round it faster with the landwheel up to spread it out and it seemed ok
