Dont forget if using vecoxin drenches you need to do a second one 10 days later , i got caught out few years ago left it to long for second drench , After advice on here tyracol is better being one dose as it has residual effect .
I try and expose the lambs early in life, so dose rate is lower so tend to do first ovivac and cocci drench at 4 weeks old

That’s the first time I’ve heard of that, I moved from buckets to drench about 4 years ago and have never done them twice.

Agree, not had to do a second dose.

Just look at the label of the drench I listed above, says residual effect for 2 to 3 weeks to break the cycle??

That’s why I don’t use it and go straight In with tolracol once.

This advice is wrong!

Amounts to be administered and administration route
To ensure the correct dosage, bodyweight should be determined as accurately as possible.
Lambs:
Therapeutic use: 1 mg diclazuril per kg bodyweight or 1 ml Vecoxan oral suspension per 2.5 kg bodyweight, as a single administration.
Preventative use: 1 mg diclazuril per kg bodyweight or 1 ml Vecoxan oral suspension per 2.5 kg bodyweight at about 4-6 weeks of age at the time that coccidiosis can normally be expected on the farm.
Under conditions of high infection pressure, a second treatment may be indicated about 3 weeks after the first dosing.

Been using Vecoxan (and it's generic versions) for 20+ years. Timing is very important, but 1 dose is all that's required - IF it's done at the right time.

Due to the nature of things a mob of lambs can have a spread of 4 weeks age wise meaning when the oldest lambs need done it is often too early for the youngest - this is usually where issues are seen.

Due to the way Cocci attacks the gut lining it is advised to worm lambs for Nemo with a White wormer at the same. Quite often in extreme challenges if one parasite is dealt with, but not the other, the damage done by one will allow the other to overwhelm the lamb, killing it.

Whats the difference between Tolracol and Vecoxan?

Tolracol and Baycox are a different drug. They have a 6 week residual persistence (continuing to kill Cocci ingested by the animal, post dosing).

Vecoxan is like a normal wormer (but obviously for Cocci) - it kills what is in the lamb/calf at time of dosing and offers no residual protection.

The lambs need to be exposed to a cocci challenge for their body's to build natural resistance. All you're doing by dosing with Vecoxan is removing the immediate parasitic challenge and giving the lamb time for it's body to build resistance.

Does everyone blanket treat whole groups of lambs with vecoxan? I know somebody who just doses vecoxan to any black scour lambs whilst regular worming, seems to work fine.

It depends. Most years it's the lambs that are known to have had a challenging start that are given a drench ~ this could be a handful of dull lookers out in couples, ideally before scours, along with all creep fed lambs (the fewer on that, the better). In difficult Springs like this one, it's all lambs and have done with it.

Tolracol has a long meat withdrawal, 42 days for sheep, but has persistent action and better product in my opinion. Downside is the withdrawal.

Vecoxan needs 2 doses 3 weeks apart as said above. Zero meat withdrawal on it too.

only if you get timing exactly right , lambs i lost were indoor ones slight spread of ages , went down for second time 2-3 weeks after first dose , sooner be sure of treatment in a hostile environment , cocci like nemo there is no second chance
and vecoxin is very rough on already challenged lambs

2-3 weeks after first dose isn't a week. And as recommended on the datasheet a 2nd dose may be needed at 3 weeks...

I understand your point but it never needs done again after a week unless you've gone far too early in which case the first dose was pointless

FEC came back, Stromgyle at 50 EPG, Nemo at 50 EPG

So no need for a drench yet.

Oocysts at 10,000 opg so getting up there but no real signs of mucky bums other than 1 or 2.

So Im not rushing to drench yet., maybe end of next week

Tolracol and Ovivac today in oldest bunch.
Not many dirty, and Fec sample was mainly bumbles not scour, but count was 20000.
Few worms too so shall give them a white drench with Clik on Monday.
I dislike doing more than 2 jobs at a time, and the second footbathing will be beneficial.
If you use Veccoxan before the lambs have all been exposed to enough cocci, you end up treating twice. Our vet is very much do them once and do them properly, and kill it.
Same with Deccox in feed, it it a coccidiostat, that is to say it keeps the lid on infection if and whilst the lambs are eating it. It doesn't kill the cocci; and it is daylight robbery at £40/ton inclusion. Heygates had none last week either, as it happens.
Monensin admix used to do a good job, but was withdrawn because it was too cheap.
On that subject MSD are making sure to gouge as much as possible out of good sheep prices, 500ml of Ovivac is now £210 plus. Bloody thieves.
