The sled dog people put boots on their dog's feet. Never tried them but I gather they work. https://www.snowpawstore.com/active-dog-gear/dog-boots.html

Back in my days with hounds, we used to put road salt on the kennel floor, and lots of road work of course. These days the mention of that would probably bring the cruelty man calling. I think surgical spirit works too.
She gets it every now and then despite her feet appearing quite hard. It’s only ever her front feet but she does run for the fun of it.

I’ve seen boots on dogs doing agility so maybe I should look to get her some.

Thanks for the reply.

need to build the dogs feet up for busy periods , but working on sharp ground is very coarse on their feet, a spare dog is very useful at these times
She’s the only one I have now. Unfortunately I had sheep & lambs out on the road yesterday and it was freshly resurfaced and then today she worked for a long period of time. I guess the combination hasn’t helped her.

If the road was freshly resurfaced the tarmac may have been hot and melted in the sun. So burnt feet! Rest and time is the only cure.

Rest is needed, it is so hard - just imagine every step you take is with a slice in the sole of your foot. If you need to work then you would still do it but take it easy, ideally you would rest up and send another out instead of you.

This isn't where you are.

Minimise the damage so as little work as is possible, and get an apprentice. A new young dog that will be just like a useless apprentice until it has learned.

Don't use painkillers - this is a case when pain will stop the dog over working and ignoring the useful signals which says don't do anymore than necessary.

As @Nithsdale Farmer and @MRT asked others about past dogs suffering the same, I had a bitch suffer the same twice 2 years running, few years back, for the love of god I cant remember the reason and what we used to solve, I know, not a lot of help, she would only be run on grass with no stones, its generally a deficiency, will ask mate/vet tomorrow to jig memory. It was something simple and cheap, circumstances very but doubt tarmac /stones

Put her some vet wrap on this morning and she’s much more comfortable. Although she did look like she was auditioning for the Riverdance for the first few minutes.....

+1 for vet wrap. I use cow bandages on my dog if he gets sore pads. He gets it from changing direction on hard ground. I put some antiseptic cream on a pad to help it to heal. Once he is used to it, he walks completely normally. I then take it off when he comes back and rests so the air can get to it. It only takes a day or two.

+1 for Mushers Secret Paw Protector Wax - helped my dog's pads heal very quickly. And vet wrap to keep it clean until they are closed up a bit.
I’ve ordered a tub of mushers secret paw wax today and it will hopefully arrive on Monday. She’ll have a quiet few days now so fingers crossed for a quick recovery.
