Combinables Price Tracker

I asked that of a friend who's been busy selling wheat for next year.
Lots finished drilling in September round here, but let's see how bad the blackgrass is next may.
did Kent get planted up last year

from the tff poll drilling looks about at the same level As last year
some areas behind last year
east Anglia
this year round here some started earlier and are near finished
some waited
if next week stops every one then will the uk be 50% planted

the anticipattion is that there will be a big 2021 crop
but that would need all crops planted by the end of October and in good condition
if I was a buyer of grain/flour I would be Considering hedging my 2021 harvest requirements
any one who did it this time last year is well quids in

No Kent didn't get planted up last year, lots of spring wheat and barley, which from what I'm told done jolly well on the whole.
Few dry days forecast for us now.
I'm almost done on wheat, just some second wheat to do which I'm not rushing at.
Been busy doing one neighbours wheat, got another call last night for another potential 400 acres to plant.
The old KV drill will earn its place here yet again.

May 21 !! Drilling progress a local issue. Why should it have an effect yet? What is happening in the rest of the world with autumn sowings?
that is what the commentaters were saying last year futures now below exfarm

last year wheat futures nov20 took a jump the last week of october 2019 and kept rising

that autumn we all had full grain stores with a near record crop

this year we are 6 million tonnes short on harvest with 1 million carried over harvest and 1 million tonnes barley
so we are 4 million short for 2020 to 2021

but we will start 2021 harvest with no carry over every grain will be sold before july
if this weather carries on as predicted next week the 2021 harvest will be below consumption even if yields are good
the current futures for nov 2021 are priced for us needing to export

Yours seems a reasonable summary. Market for Nov 21 priced at encouraging farmers to plant but not at reflecting a scarcity - which is understandable as the market today still considers the grain may get planted. May I humbly suggest you are thinking ahead of the market - so good for you. Certainly at the moment wouldn't be a seller - especially if not sown much!!

High Pressure is located in wrong place for us LIncs folk. End September Met Office forecast a settled spell of 10 - 14 days end of October. They are correct but wrong in that if the high stays were it is and we keep a run of nor'eaterlies then possible showers every day running into Eastern England. And drilling will not take place. Next 10 days critical.

we planted nothing between 23 september last year and 26 march
by 26 aprill we were planted up and had reasonable crop very low costs
and most importantly did not damage the soil this will pay dividends for 2022 to 2025

when the weather is the problem there is nothing you can do so i do not worry about it there is always a chance to drill properly between september and april
plenty of farmers round here planted no wheat last year but got it planted after the new year

Only getting offered 140 for surplus spring oats but they are offering sharp movement , so would at least save me shifting them yet again into a long term shed .
