Silly question, but what are the down sides of combining in this predicted 40c heat Mon /tues?

Have a couple of fields of barley that we’d like to get before any potential downpours

Well I did think that, supposed to be a very strong wind so could blow all the dust back into the combine?

I can't see any downsides. Got to be better than trying to lift wet soggy flat crops with secondary tillers, surely ?

Cooling the crop? If it’s going on an on floor drier then I suppose it’s easier but tipped and heaped in a shed could be difficult to get temp down.
I’d say that provided the combine has been properly blown out then fire risk should be minimal.

Yes would go on a drying floor due to heat.

Funny how we always expect a dry spell to last forever. I’d say crack on if it’s fit and safe to work. If you have air con then it’s easier.

just keep it well blown down and shouldn’t be an issue

they run far hotter than 40 even on cold days !

I was thinking the same. 40°c is just above body temp. Plenty places on a combine that you couldn't touch even on a cool day.

Rarely saw or head of a combine fire in temps over 30 when I was in the states. Worst risk period late in the season when the winds got up. 20mph plus winds, low 20s or much below, with tinder dry conditions. If you cut oil sunflowers you had to check exhaust manifold every 2 hours for embers.

My Aussie mates said they wouldn't cut if it was 50 because of fire risk

Just blow the rads out well before you start, and keep a close eye on the temp gauge, n steady up if it starts to rise
