suckler rolls @ £412 / tonne in £25 kg bags from harbro .Phoned around Ecv / norvite and a place near Keith and am getting 25kg bagged @ £295 /tonne from the mill near Keith . Ecv similar price , norvite £50 more . But nothing as dear as Harbro . Same sort of price for beef grower pellet .

Harbro seem to have lost the plot with pricing.

I hope winter doesn't drag on like last year.feeding ewes in may doesn't seem very appealing at these prices.

I wouldn't put it past them. They must think they can sell everything at the same price they charge the smallholders for a single bag in their 'Country store'. I've been pleased with the quality and delivery service in the past but you have to draw a line somewhere.

It's the same with @Al R and his Lifeline buckets. They are convenient but why pay 3x more per tonne than ewe rolls for a product with a poorer anslysis?

I wouldn't put it past them. They must think they can sell everything at the same price they charge the smallholders for a single bag in their 'Country store'. I've been pleased with the quality and delivery service in the past but you have to draw a line somewhere.

That’s my thoughts too. Folks round about use tonnes of them lifeline buckets and some of them folks with not a lot of sheep too. Never had any ever that I can remember. Last lot of feed buckets I bought was probably over ten years ago. The rep persuaded me to buy £1800 worth to qualify for the discount and our ewes munched through them in less than a fortnight. They were already getting ewe rolls silage molasses and beet. When he came back I told him I thought they were just for rich people not me.

I have around 500 brokers, most of my ewes won’t go for cake and why stress them whenever they see me they don’t think their being fed? Since moving away from snacking barley and oats pre lambing I’ve reduced TLD to near zero and prolapses to near zero apart from some broker hill ewes, whilst also doubling the ewe numbers! It’s an insurance policy so I can squeeze twins and triplets to reduce fatness but also stop them getting health problems etc.
I spend around £1.20/ewe on buckets. Apart from 2 boluses which amount to not much more than that the buckets would be my second biggest input cost per ewe.

I also only allow twins at them 2 weeks pre lambing until 6 weeks post, triplets will be 6-4 weeks pre lambing until 6 weeks after.
Get next to zero mag issues either. They arn’t in any other times of the year and definitely arn’t in for tupping!!!!!

£20 tub does 20 twins for 6-8 weeks usually. Some fields 1 tub will do 30 twins for 8 weeks and still stuff left, there are a lot of factors at play to determine how fast they go through them.. had an old ley (now ploughed up for veg by that landlord) that 40 hill brokers twins/triplets were in and they would take an inch off a lifeline block and then not bother after that, same for 4 years and field was only 9 acre but full of natural plants like dandelions etc so it proved they only took what they needed…

I remember a farm visit our sheep group went on a few years ago, to a fella that was doing rotational grazing, wintering on swedes, then outdoor lambing on grass only. He claimed he was feeding no concentrates at all, but there was a pile of empty red buckets nearly as big as the shed we were standing in.

I’ll happily admit I give buckets at lambing but only at lambing to!
The odd thing may get a bit of corn but that’s a kn0bfull each for a diversification project which pays well.
50-60 acre of turnips this year so all twins and triplets should be on those or grass pre lambing but I’ve still got 15t of corn in the shed just incase as an insurance.

ECV quality is grand. Every bit as good as any others I’ve used. They have their own lorry and also use the pallet delivery system for tote bags - mine often comes by courier with a tail lift and pallet truck and dropped straight into the shed.

Iv never used ecv but lv heard it good, as for davidsons, there ewelac 18 was alway a good feed for ewes 6 weeks to go. Haven't a price for davidsons this year yet.

Harbor service isn't the best.they are really slow at delivering minerals.an that's with giving them a few weeks notice.
Use Davidson's and ECV both decent.think Davidson's just edges on the service front.we get 4t drops an blow it into bags.

Ordered beef blend from Carrs last week. Barley based, 14%CP £263 Asked about ewe nuts. Rep said they weren’t keen on releasing prices until after new year! that doesn’t sound good
