I’m not sure if it’s economical to finish ewes on anything but grass or something else cheap
The conversion with ewes is surprisingly bad which makes expensive cake or blend a no go unless it’s just for the last bit and the main of the condition has been put on with something else
To fatten anything you need starch energy and protein probably in that order
You should have an energy level on that analysis
Only real bad white faced ewes are worth feeding I have found. Maybe eat £30-40 in corn but can lift from a £20 model to over £100. A swale etc isn’t worth it imo

For the last few years I’ve fed I’ansons universal pellets to cattle and lambs rather than a special cattle nut or lamb pellet and they’ve done just as well as before. They are 16% protein, 4.0% oils and fats. Looking at ewe nuts they are 18% protein and 4.25% oils and fats.

The main ingredients in the Universal are Barley, wheatfeed, rapemeal extract, soya hulls, palm kernel expeller, molasses, field beans

The ewe cake has Wheat instead of barley , dark distillers grains and some hi-pro soya, the rest is much the same. The protein source is obviously superior but for reasonably fit ewes, that have been bolussed and will have lifeline buckets as well, is it worth paying nearly £100 per ton more for ewe nuts.
The big difference is because this year I have no where to put bulk ewe nuts so they would come in bags. I could feed more of the universal and still be better off

I’ve used both are the nuts matrix nuts?
In all honesty the ewes will do better on the rolls (or ours have) you might get away with it if the ewes are fit but then the question is what’s actually better value?

Universal pellets? Matrix nuts?
I should have typed Universal nuts not pellets, that’s what they’re called on the ticket. That is fed to cattle and fattening lambs, it’s £304 blown in and they do well on it, for well framed hoggs that just need finish I sometimes get two parts nuts and 1 part micronised barley. If I get the premium ewe 18 I’ll get cobs .I’m just going off last years tickets for ewe feed. Are the matrix nuts their specific lamb fattening nut?

I think the Matrix nuts will be the same or similar the universal nuts you are using. Basically a 16% nut general purpose good for cattle and sheep. We have used a lot of that in the past same as you we put some of their cooked barley in amongst it to liven it up a bit for fattening hoggs.
We did give some to ewes thinking the same as you it would be the same or do the same job, it isn’t. The ewes seemed to only shift when they got onto the rolls. I’m not telling you your job or anything but would recommend the rolls for the ewes for whatever reason. What price are their rolls?

I think she said in bags they’re £402, in bulk they’re probably £50 less
