Concrete crumbling

His any one come across this it's only done this year

Done this year ,all its done is rain ,that looks like too wet then a frost

Efflorescence at a guess. I bet the shuttered wall will still be there in 30 years time.

From what I can see it is very shallow and I'd hazzard the substrata is ok.

I suspect it dried out too fast. Feed the setting concrete with water so it hardens before it dries out.

Did you use any anti crack reinforcement? What was the concrete mix and what spacing did you saw cut it?

Yes unfortunately, it's sickening to see. A lot of wet silage in last year, plenty of effluent to test concrete but theres no way it should be like that. Are you a contractor? I'd be interested to know what happened on this?

40N is a good mix for silos as it will be more resistant to effluent attack but the down side is the extra cement creates more heat and hence it dries quicker especially with this weather. Concrete by nature wants to crack as part of the curing process, all you can do is try and control the cracking, that’s what the light mesh reinforcement helps with. Without wanting to be too harsh, but a silo poured nowadays without some form of reinforcement is highly unlikely to meet NIEA requirements.
