If you put it in 2" thick, you've saved 50% on materials, but nothing on time, still got to be set up and poured, then in a few years time when it's cracked you've to do it again,

So what are you going to do, relay it 2" thick or 4"?

You've just had to dig it all back out again so more labour costs there, then you've relayed it 4" thick, twice as much as originally, and then you have to pay labour to lay it. Suddenly that cheap 2" of concrete is starting to look expensive, about the same as if you'd laid it 6" thick to begin with, but it doesn't matter the first floor did 10 years and it was cheap
