Concrete panels as a head wall for culvert

need to rip out an old culvert, and widen it. It is in use daily so need to do the dig and replace quickly.

Existing knackered pipe is a 12" broken clay pipe so whole lot coming out and replaced.

I was going to shutter and pour some head walls but that will take a lot of time to set up and cure, but could set some pipes into the wall.

So now thinking about RSJ's and 180mm-200mm panels....... how easy would it be to cut a pipe hole, or can a pipe sleeve be set into the panel, thinking of using 450mm twin wall.

The wall top will be 2400mm to base of ditch, so think 2 x 1.2mtr panels per side.

Thoughts?

I’d ask your panel manufacturer if they can cast a hole in for you. Be a hell of job cutting a 450mm hole in a 200mm panel

Shutter the headwalls
yeah was my original plan, but have 20 vans using it to go out first thing in the morning and back late afternoon, hence why I wanted a quick fix....

I might still be able to shutter them and just do the job in 2 phases (fill the middle of the culvert wide enough to drive over but keep the headwalls free.)

Fast setting concrete in shutters? Concreting lads here were talking about some stuff they were running wagons over the next day...

What about some big lumps of stone, like you see at the seaside. Drop em in and job done.

If you are looking at the panel idea,we can cast the panel with a hole as required. We have done this before on several occasions and negates the need for drilling etc which would be a tough job to say the least.
Where are you based ?

Presumably you would have to have a base for the walls to sit on.

How would you fix the precast panels to the base?
I was planning on digging a trench through the base of the ditch and dropping them approx. 400mm below the ditch base. The RSJ's would be concreted in and have a concrete base to rest the panels on?
