They would and they did 👍 Ruthin, Abergele back in the day, Builth, Rhayader, Welshpool and Dolgellau. We did favour beulahs as they weighed more, and at the time Beulah ewes sold really well into the ethnic trade. Tup them all with the Rouge or Texel, lamb them and feed the lot. Then start again.
As usual too many folk decided it was a good idea and the decent ewes that would breed again became unbuyable. That’s when we swapped to all mule ewes, buying ewe lambs and starting from there. Grandad got older and eased right up on the feeding stock. Then I came home and took his old business model, modernised it a touch and away we’ve gone again.

384 total this week so not a disaster even though I didn’t get any today.
Must have been a long time ago if you were going to Abergele market. I didn't even know there was one so just had a look on Google and it apparently closed in may 1996 and is now a tesco 😕
Probably to do with Jones peckover? No point having both there and stasaph as well i suppose.

Abergele was before my time. Boss man used to buy out of there. Reckons it was a bad spot to buy lambs but ewes could be bought there

we stopped buying from wales in aroundabout 2000. Just before F&M. Tried again 03/04 but it just didn’t add up

God help me for wanting too ask a serious question on a weekend but here we go…
Iv maxed out my indoor lambing capacity, so because of that iv drafted off all my older mules and sold them..

I plan too lamb a second batch later on outdoors now, and i want too try out one of these magical breeds that do all the work themselves… cost of inputs is getting silly so I want too see if it can work on my land and my system,.. probably 100-150 too start with and I’ll compare costs/ profitability of the 2 flocks…

A. Where do you even buy these long tailed mongrels? Im a market man and can’t seem to find any sales? I doubt I’ll have the money too fund buying them until mid November really so will probably be end of April/ start of may lambing time if I can get some bought..
B. What breed should I even be going for? Tups I have handy are Suffolk or char x beltex im not really bothered about breeding replacements just yet…

Have Logie durno farms anything suitable? Apparently you only put the tup in and take it out again they do the rest themselves! Not sure if that works out.

If you'd asked earlier, I've just sold 37 correct below Swales for handy money ...

They're certainly long-tailed and they look like mongrels 😀
