Bit of a joke this is.
Quite agree but I still think you have to give them a chance to mature before you bull them in these conditions. Is your cousin up the north west corner?Been and seen , good yes . Getting them incalf is what we talking about not quality of the ones that have . Not so good if they not in calf in the first place tho . My cousin manages a 10k acre place on sky .
He is yea. .Quite agree but I still think you have to give them a chance to mature before you bull them in these conditions. Is your cousin up the north west corner?
There's people in the harshest Australian/African/American environments who have adapted their cattle genetics to calve at 2. Surely it would be possible for UK breeders to do the same?Quite agree but I still think you have to give them a chance to mature before you bull them in these conditions. With all respect, you're not grazing hard hill ground where you are.I disagree.
Nope. I'm grazing veg land. With all respect, you're not grazing hard hill ground where you are.
Is that like the ring fenced 600 million pot??They haven’t said but they have said that it’s a fixed pot of money so the money for those cows calving outside the calving interval goes back into the pot and will be added to the amount the qualifying cows get.
Looks like I won't be able to claim on all my calves but I'm not going to change what I do.It’s as ridiculous as Welsh Govt are trying to do. You can’t impose one set of scheme rules across all farms in the country as the farms and systems are so diverse.
The drafts buggers can’t seem to see that sat behind their desks in Cardiff/London/Edinburgh.
I have calved plenty at 2 but I don't believe in stunting themThere's people in the harshest Australian/African/American environments who have adapted their cattle genetics to calve at 2. Surely it would be possible for UK breeders to do the same?
I dont think it dose , some first calvers at 2 are like big sheep yet by 12 year old can be 800kgs plus …..I have calved plenty at 2 but I don't believe in stunting them
I haven’t stunted these intentionally I didn’t realise i was doing something rightI have calved plenty at 2 but I don't believe in stunting them
I wouldn’t worry about it, it probably won’t become a habitI haven’t stunted these intentionally I didn’t realise i was doing something right
PioneeringI wouldn’t worry about it, it probably won’t become a habit
If they dont they need fre bentos , i scan mine and if not in calf off they go …Every cow should be able to calve every 12 months or so though shouldn't they? I mean slipping a month or so isn't too bad as long as they all don't do it. Some would calve every 10 months if you let them.
