Surely though if that’s not enough you have to supplement even if it doesn’t fit with the system 🤦‍♂️ can’t just leave sheep to go down and die because they don’t fit the system …
Depends what % are failing on the system. How's he supposed to know which ones are going to come down with calcium? Managing the entire flock for the worst sheep is not wise.

They can have plenty of feed and still go down with calcium def. I have had it when I've let ewes onto beet tops before now, including finding 20 down one morning (thankfully only lost a couple but was a bit manic with the calcium jabs for an hour or so!).
I always make sure to put a bag of loose GP mins out for a few days while the transition now, which stops it completely.

It's just a sudden change that triggers the calcium issue, see the odd one when bringing sheep from hill to in-bye pre lambing, and see quite a few in pregnant ewes returning from wintering. Never the thinnest sheep either.

I don't leave anything to go down and die thank you very much. Anything needing treatment receives it, and is then cull marked. Any progeny is not retained either.

Despite our best efforts we still have ewes die. It's budgeted for when paying £25 for a ewe. They're all bolused pre tupping and pre lambing as well. sh!t happens 🤷🏻‍♂️

Must be a temporary CPH rather than TLA at that distance?
Yes it’s a tCph
That is pushing it. We rent summer grazing and the link has been removed even though it is directly across a main road and bordered on the other side by a large river. Probably the most biosecure acres in Scotland. So have to record 100 cattle tags on Scot Moves.
It’s a grazing marsh.

Just like Jersey cows,a change in temp can bring on milk fever, local fella had 60 out of 200 one day.

If asked for a nutrient management plan by the Ea for 24/25 growing season, what dates would you include?
April 24 to April 25 or all 24 and all 25?

Asking for a friend who needs to do it by tonight…

I’d probably go with anything it has had since the last cut/graze of 2023 up to the intended finish of the 2025 cutting/grazing

Print out maps of your farm and draw on it. Write on the fields what you put where and when.
FYM applied at 10t/ha 12/9/24
Slurry 1500gallons/ha 6/4/24
something like that.
What I was told is it's a plan you don't have to stick to it exactly as long as the intention is there. You'll know roughly what you do and when most farms do the same thing every year. Just change the dates for next year if you intend to do the same again.
