I remember easy care sheep. But never hear about them now. So you don't get fly strike either. That would be worth it I suppose! Clipping doesn't bother me but your maybe right. You never see any wool about. It doesn’t come out in big lumps like it would from a sick ewe, but in wispy bits. It soon disappears.
Does any sane person ‘like’ shearing? On top of that, it’s been a good while since the wool income covered the contract shearers’ cost, let alone the cost of Clik on top.
I’d be very happy with some decent sheep that shed, less so with the ‘off the shelf’ options currently available.
Where av you been? All we here about is easycare type sheep.I remember easy care sheep. But never hear about them now. So you don't get fly strike either. That would be worth it I suppose! Clipping doesn't bother me but your maybe right.
Hiding mostly, I did venture to scotsheep never saw a easy care. Did see inovis though. Don't recall shedding sheep though! I doubt they would be much good in the cold wet weather! It's no care sheep I'm after, when are they coming?Where I’ve you been? All we here about is easycare type sheep.

All the posh farmers use easy care sheep just with different names … gives them more time for measuring grass and setting up break fencesYes, the damned things are everywhere... on social media anyway.
Maybe you thought someone had a stand with goats on and you walked straight past.Hiding mostly, I did venture to scotsheep never saw a easy care. Did see inovis though. We have Romney x , neighbours have easycares . On a cold wet day the Romney’s are still grazing , the easycares are in dyke back hunched upThey do have a fleece in the winter, usually with a fine hair understorey, so should be warm enough. They only shed (mostly) when it warms up.
That said, my pure Exlanas all prefer to hide under the shelter of a hedge in an open fodder beet field, rather than near the food like my Highlanders do. I struggle to see how they'd thrive on an open hill though, unless they'd plenty of cover to get behind (where they won't get stuck in the thorns).
And wool wont always be a cost. Not that many years ago it paid rent or shepherds wage.We have Romney x , neighbours have easycares . On a cold wet day the Romney’s are still grazing , the easycares are in dyke back hunched up

Haven't folks noticed how plastic products have risen in price at a rate similar to red diesel.

It used to be subsidised, many years ago. Not sure when exactly but I heard the a big farmer here could buy a tractor from the clip! It would be more than your lifetime I would think!I'm 54 and I can't remember that in my lifetime.
I live in hope ! Shear our own, so wool pays its way here . I still can’t believe in this day and age with everyone wanking on about renewables and carbon ect that wool is still worth hee hawAnd wool wont always be a cost. Not that many years ago it paid rent or shepherds wage.

We bought a few easycare ewe lambs last year as an experiment. We had to winter them in a field with netting fences because they could squeeze through a hedge where a woolly hog couldn’t. They summered on the hill, they lived over the back so I didn’t see much of them, but neighbour said they would run for shelter when it rained. They’ve gone to a texel tup and I don’t think we’ll be expanding their numbers. We have Romney x , neighbours have easycares .
