Are Farm Cats an endangered species yet. Seldom see any now. Used to always have a few strays come and go.

Been some "Cats Protection" lot going around last 3 or 4 years trapping every cat they can find and sterilising them. Little reproduction.

Have seen adverts for kittens at £50 each, never fast enough replying to get one.

Maybe Stoats are the answer to keep vermin down. Had one about last Spring and rats disappeared. Not seeing one this year, but a few rats back.
Rarely see feral cats around here anymore as there are so many pet ones around.
We just buy/collect kittens from other farms and there's a couple of farms.locally that have a few feral ones.

Our current cat is a prolific murderer, gets plenty of mice, and a fair few rats. Has been known to get the odd rabbit as well

Best hunting kitten I ever had came from up your way - Keiss I think. Didn’t cost me any ££ but gave me a headache by howling all the way over the Ord and down to home. Would happily take adult rabbits, had the patience to wait for moles to come out for air, etc.

There’s still some out there but you need to ask around, and maybe be prepared to take a slightly older one too.

Is Balmore still open?
Balmore is closed I think, late last year. Been a lot of press about it.

Caithness is the "Land of Cat". Funny but cannot remember seeing a single cat in the last 3 months, and I have been out and about wasting more time than I should have.

Rats, Pigeons and starlings are a real plague in the buildings. Occasional visit from a pair of Hen Harriers making no difference. Anybody got a few spare Stoats?

If you really must, in an absolute emergency make that do for a corner post, at least turn it round so the wires are pulling against the main post not the thin plastic wire holders!!
Literally every corner post I have apart from 6 genuine rappa ones is done either like this or a poly post baling twined too cut up road sign and Iv never had a single one break the wire holders 🤷🏻‍♂️

I've had stoats taking 3kg chicken it's quite a thing watching a 300gram stoat drag of a bird 10 times it's size

A bit of a tangent, but what are people thinking 're breeding of mule crosses? I.e are you selling all lambs off a terminal sire or keeping gimmers and crossing again?

If I'm being dumb and someone else is already talking/have talked about this do point me the right way. Tia

A lot of people will be keeping first crosses out of mules- usually by a Suffolk or Texel tup. Both sorts are very popular ewes around here.
