I am pondering a new mower to speed up the cutting procerss and debating between a new 2m drum or a 2nd hand disc mower. Then a chat with a friend made me think about a conditioner as well...
Part of the thought process is the question of whether I can successfully make a herbal ley into hay successfully, and the need to avoid belting the living daylights out of clovers and the other herbal plants is paramount. I have been looking on't Net, and the suggestions of mowing (with conditioner??) and then tedding ASAP, or possibly first thing with a heavy dew on the fallen crop, is a sensible sounding option.
Obviously it can be done if the weather is kind and the timing is right. Won't be until next year anyway, but forward planning will decide on any possible purchases!!
Backup is always having a wrapper handy!! Is it worth having a chopper baler in this instance, to deal with any stemmy growth? I mowed a crop of PRG a couple of years ago that was riddled with cedlock, I had it chopped and it was wonderful stuff, the sucklers loved it.
