Coronavirus and Diabetes

How is anyone managing with the present state of the world? Are people in lockdown or still managing to “manage”. I’ve had to stop paid work for 12 weeks but as we are out on our own we are managing to lamb but not away from home to help any where that we would normally “give a hand”. I feel a bit like we aren’t pulling our weight in the world but I suppose our job is to avoid catching it and causing even more problems for everyone.

This is very interesting. I work in a hospital pharmacy and have very bad asthma. I was sent home last week and someone with better controlled asthma was sent home this week and they’ve said they’ll potentially see us mid June. However my colleague who’s diabetic has been told he’s fine to continue working?
He feels like he is high risk and should be shielding but according to our risk assessments he’s fine to just ‘distance’.

Type 2 diabetics tend to have worse health in general. Type 1's are all sorts of people but in the main are diagnosed under 40. I think the fact that type 2 is a slow insidious affliction that much damage to the body is done before it is properly bought into check.

I'm probably talking sh1te btw!!

anyhow, type 1 here, doing my best to avoid anyone (no change there) and being in isolation isn't really any different to normal life because we are lucky enough to live on the farm.

I just said that to my wife we are lucky to be where we are and able to go outside without anyone anywhere near us. Just finding it strange not seeing anyone as normally I would be interacting with loads of folk every day. Take care everyone.

I am type 3c, because of damage my pancreas. Type 2 can be controlled on a low carb diet, I was discharged from hospital on insulin because of the feeds I was on. I am now managed like a Type 2, so I eat about 50grms of carbs a day and my blood test is OK, below the range for Type 2.
Things are changing with Type 2, and if you contol the amount of carbs you eat, you can get your blood tests back to normal levels.
My favorite that explains it,
I think its easier for some Type 1, my friend has a pump can adjust her insulin it to what she has eaten.

I am just about fit to go back to work, but it's not worth the risk, I was so ill I never claimed sick pay. So we are in isolation but busy with spring jobs.
