Costs to grow grass for silage?

Cos a round baler is a lot cheaper lighter and less power hungry than a big square baler. Depends on your circumstances i think .You can go out with a little old tractor and round baler and make silage just as well as dragging tons of iron rot behind some huge tractor.

Round bales are pretty damned dangerous on hills too at times. There can’t be any round baler operators that haven’t had the odd runaway bale.

Just thinking out loud. How do the economics of selling first cut out of the field for £10 per bale and then having the aftermath to wean lambs onto, compare with spraying grass off to grow a forage crop for them and then having the cost of reseeding.

It’s because the spec has changed in some way (think there is now bone meal incorporated) so they aren’t allowing it . More a public perception thing than anything solid.
