My thinking was a cutting disc would be needed depending on rotation, doing a tidier job in cover crops and grass leys.

The cutting disc is excellent for cutting through crop residues, I've not seen a problem using the disc in brash to be fair. Wider spacing soon fill in by the spring with correct input timings. The disc certainly leaves a tidier finish in certain situations like grass leys as asked above. 4 metre demonstrator DTS available for demo or sale if anyone is looking

I stand to be corrected, but the front disc on the DTS isn't for low disturbance purposes, but to slice the straw/stubble trash in order to minimise the chance of it then hair-pinning across the leading tines.

After all my research into the various strip till drills, I've still not worked out why it hair pins on the DTS, but doesn't on other similar drill designs. I understand that the bolt on deflectors help.

The DTS is a great drill, but I wouldn't get too hung up on the benefits of a leading disc.
