If you are in the construction industry ,please can you tell me the name of the temporary structure(scaffolding covered with plastic) that you may sometimes have erected over a building so that work can carry on in the dry especially during the winter months. Do scaffolding companies erect that type of temporary structure or are there specialised companies that erect that type of structure,I guess it is very expensive.

If its long term ask for a "roof over" with tin sheets or if you are in a windy exposed area other wise a "tent" will do with clear plastic sheeting

Thanks for info,we are having a conservatory replaced with a small garden room during this winter ,so was think the scaffolding structure would create better working conditions for the builders.
I expect cost will put a stop on my idea,of the temporary structure,we are in a very exposed west facing position!!

Get a commitment from the builders to not leave your project once they have started, but wait for the better weather to begin.

I partly go along with that as I do not want to be surrounded by a muddy building site for 6mts!!!
I get enough of mud at my yard doing firewood ,the trouble is it means waiting until next April for hopefully better weather.

Local vet/farmer was refurbishing a listed house, got a price to cover it as op wants, got prices but found that a steel framed shed was cheaper, so he built a shed over the house, and the builders carried on throughout the winter.
Now that the house is finished the shed was pulled down, and its ready to be re erected on the farm, or sold on !

Nice idea! Surprised nobody pulled him up on planning permission for that though knowing what the council bods are like. Would've made a good photo opportunity too.

It was there for quite a few years, in plain sight off the A5 road, it was so familiar you just passed it without a thought, only noticed it was gone the other day :( do you need planning for a temporary shelter ?

Wrapping can be cost effective because you do not have delays, price is dependent on the amount of materials used and duration of hire. Get a few quotes, my daughters house was wrapped last winter and the cost can be staggering unless you know someone who knows someone. The quotes received were as high as £16k, done for £7k after calling in a few favours.
