Covid Marshals

I see that our Dear Leader is going to put “Covid Marshals” on to the streets to patrol and break up gatherings of more than six and other antisocial activities.

Fine in principle but then I read that these guys n gals are going to be funded from local authority budgets (most are bust or borderline bust) and that they will have no powers to actually enforce the law.

Fine in priciple, but stick a high vis jacket on someone and give them a bit of power, and they go overboard. Look at what happened when the new rules came out with the police - arresting people sitting alone in a park, telling us that our shopping trollies would be searched for non essential items etc.
I would not like to be a "covid marchal" who tries to break up a group of 10 lads outside a pub!

Can't win either way. If he does nothing he's blamed for not controlling the virus, if he tries to keep people isolated, the only real way to be effective, he's blamed for destroying the economy and taking away peoples rights.

What choice does he have?

My point was that these marshals are going to be sent in to the streets with no actual powers behind them other than one of persuasion.
Good luck with breaking up a gang of drunken youngsters
