That's what I mean. The place I took Dad was not fit for purpose. St Boniface Ashburton or maybe is Buckfast. In the middle. Stupid place to do it on a fairly fast back road which the A38 or Expressway or whatever replaced. Much better places they could have chosen. they are morons.

That’s crazy when they could have used the Dartmoor Motel, near the Subaru dealer and just off A38

Or the car park by Exeter cattle market which is massive and has excellent access. Would have only taken me another 10-15 mins or so to get there. Plenty of places like that. Park and Ride in Dartmouth, all empty and unused. Massive areas of tarmac.

Plenty of hangers and airfields about but if they not got the vaccines it don't make any difference?

Seems to be plenty of vaccine available, here in Cambridgeshire they have been told to slow down as they are getting too far ahead of other places. They were going to start on school staff this week but now on hold.

Really
here they got extra vaccine over the week end so upped the pace and pulled more staff in and over 70s called

imho if a place has vaccine they will give it out if they can get people in
the week before last they could get health service workers in at short notice but that get harder as more get the vaccine

they could likely start on some second shots at short notice to use up spare vaccine near use by date

in the first 30 millon it does not make much difference when you get it if you are in lockdown
the key is to get the first 30 million as quick as possible

by April I will be back self isolating in a tractor but will have a spare hour to get a shot when one is available

Imho the uk will be vaccinating over 500000 per day

many centres are aiming to double their current rate

the only limit will be the ambition of the team in making slots available
or
ultimatly the availability of vaccine we may already have 10 s of millions of shots but the govment do not want to publicise other countries may take umbridge

I am certain that big Pharma will be pulling out all the stops and get these vaccine supplies churned out very rapidly. They are doing all they can I have no doubt.

If you want to take something positive out of this fudging pandemic it is that is this is the first mass-market commercial use of an mRNA vaccine and I believe this will be the catalyst that sees this technology rapidly deployed into producing vaccines of the same kind for all kinds of ailments. The rapidity and ease with which new vaccines can be made means there is now a serious potential for vaccines against HIV, tooth decay and even personalised cancer vaccines to be made at much lower cost and speed. It's going to be a game changer in the years to come and we have a global pandemic to thank for creating the need for an unprecedented international and multi billion research effort into a disease. We even have China to thank for so rapidly sequencing and characterising the virus in the first place. If you want something to smile about, there is plenty there.

Interesting, right before the first lockdown started I was chatting with a local microbiologist who was pretty upbeat about them too. He also highlighted the potential cancer aspect, but I must admit that - although I'm not scientifically illiterate - he rather lost me in the minutiae.

I don't know him, and only saw him when waiting for the kids during sports, but I think his current opinions would be very interesting to hear now. However, I have discussed it pretty recently with family and friends who are doc's, in England and Scotland, and the consensus among their colleagues is that these new vaccines will be very significant, and also that medicine and the NHS(s) will see huge changes once CV-19 has been properly checked.

I still think there is a lot we don't know / aren't being told about the origin and start of the virus.
