Hi not been on here in a while but decided to come here for a bit of much needed wisdom! Cow sticking her tongue out, this is the cow in the picture. She was bulling last Monday and then this tongue came about! Vet has seen her and didn’t have a clue what was causing it. She looks terreble but was a picture of health this time last week. Vet advised to give antibiotics which I have done. And has done nothing. Has anyone seen this before???

What was the withdrawal on the antibiotics used?
It was Synulox, is that 30 day? Maybe more. That doesn’t make a difference as she would be condemned at our local abatoir so we wouldn’t get anything for her. Getting stricter and stricter, an unwell cow precious years fire her to abattoir but these cows are just coming back condemned now so your just aswell shooting her on the farm!

Is she eating and drinking? The only time I have seen one like that is a broken jaw.
Another good shout actually, she’s a right pain in the arse when she’s bulling so she could well have hurt her jaw then. She picks at her cake, but not eating that much. Been problem after problem for too long you can’t take your eyes off them!! As for time off the farm, well it really sends you into depression with what you come back to!!!

I have a calf with its tongue out like that. Wouldn't suck so brought it in and put cow in crush and tried to get it to suck, cow clobbered it before I could pull it away. Now tongue hangs out like that but it can pull it back in suspect it's broken it's jaw

We once had one with an abcess under the jaw/tongue. Just felt like a slight lump under the skin from outside. Vet lanced it, drained loads of pus out, antibiotics and it made a full recovery. Took a very thorough examination to find it. It had walled itself off but was getting bigger until it's tongue wouldn't retract properly. But if the vet has already seen it then maybe not that.
