Cracked manifold bolt.

There was a hairline crack on the manifold of my tractor. Got all bolts loosed except for one which cracked. I drilled a small hole and put in a screw extractor from a set (see below link). 7mms wrench is too small to turn it and it spins on the 8mms. What else could I grip the square screw extractor with?. Sockets won't catch it. I'm afraid the grips would only round screw extractor.

Weld a washer to it first then weld a nut to it.
Done that many times, even if the bolt is broken below the surface pulse the welder until it is high enough to weld to the washer and then weld a nut on and gently rock backwards and forwards to release the bolt,be careful with stud extractors as they expand the remaining stud and make it tighter in the hole, you could try tapping a torx bit into the hole in the stud, there is no golden rule it's whatever works, also when stud is hot from welding put a candle on it as it penetrates the threads but won't evaporate like wd40

A 12 point socket will grip a square head.

No because the sides coming out of the tap wrench either get caught on alternator, engine or manifold.
Use an extension bar from a 1/4" socket set to extend the stud extractor.

Then swear slot when the stud extractor shears off, then weld a nut on.

Swear some more when the nut shears off, try a left hand drill bit, find out that it isn't centred properly, then it breaks and you consider setting fire to the damn thing and claiming on the insurance if only you hadn't posted on the internet that the stud had broken off...

pretty handy if you’ve got the room.

Remove alternator to make room for tap wrench, not that big a job on the whole scheme of things.

or an “all drive” socket on the stud extractor, think that’s what they are called.
or as said keep drilling.
