Crank shaft

Hello,

This is my first post after reading this forum for a while now.

I have a Ford Ransomes EPJ2 plough behind a Fordson New Major. Before 5 years ago I hadn’t plough on yard in my live, so I was no trouble with any knowles about a plough or working with it.

I restored my plough myself and made a lot of mistakes that I have found out now and improved them. The last mistake I found was that part of the frame where the front leg is mounted has bended. I have shimmed it to get in line whit the plough and now both plough element are in line and at 12" at the shares. Hoping to do some plough work next week to check it out.

Question is: When I have the tractor on a flat peace and the plough in both way's horizontal the crank shaft is not vertical in line but far turned with the left crank forward to get the plough in line with the tractor.
Don't know how it will be when ploughing.

I assume that when the first and second run is ploughed the plough must be in line with the tractor and therefore the crank shaft will be turned way out of line.
Is this correct thinking?

ps: being a Dutchman makes writing and reading in English a bit hart.

Kind regards Henk

Good effort Henk - most of us would struggle to say all that in Dutch

A plough needs to run fairly straight with only a slight amount of pressure on the landsides. When a plough is set correctly the lower crank on the cross shaft (furrow side) should be only just forward of centre.

Check that your wheel track is set correctly before changing anything else. The inside faces of the tyre walls should be in line unless you intend to plough really deep

With the cross shaft set just off centre vertically, move the plough across on the cross shaft to get the right front furrow width.

Good luck

Howard,

Thanks for your reply. It makes a lot of sence. I will try it this week.

Pennine,
Thanks for translating your answer, but in Dutch I can not brew any koffie or tea of it. These automatic translaters do not alway's work correctly.
So please write in Englisch.

sorry only trying to help, however as follows
hello, i think you must mean the cross shaft looks to be running to one side, meaning the fact, that you have to twist the cross shaft to get the plough to run straight,
best way is to turn the handle so the hitch pins center and cross shaft center are nearly straight up and down and slighty forward on furrow side, then slacken off the clamps that hold the shaft and move the plough left or right to you get the right furrow width on front furrow, tighten the clamps again, then the plough should run straight and in line with the tractor, then you will have equal adjustment on the handle to make fine adjustment to furrow width on the front,

same as above post really
