Will that mean not tax deductible or no claiming the vat back?
The VAT and capital tax situation does not change. However, as these vehicles are hybridised and electrified, the extra weight may require the payload to be reduced under one ton. At which point the four door pickup market pretty much will cease to exist, as is already the case in many European countries.
I believe that Ford have already warned that certain models will cease to qualify from some time this year and I presume that to coincide with a battery hybrid system being installed.

Not surprised.Ford Ranger pickup is the most popular choice of vehicle at our local school gate. Virtually none of them have a tow bar, and are always immaculately clean inside and out. I’m the only farmer there with 120 sheep and 100 head of cattle, and I use a 20 year old Golf as my everyday farm runabout.
That is certainly not the situation in rural Wales. 99% are work trucks that may well be used for dual purpose at times. I find that most ladies can’t be arsed with driving and parking pickup trucks as they are far too big and inconvenient. 90% here have tow bars even though some, like my Ford, are removed when not in use. One of my pickups is often cleaner than the other but both seldom carry passengers in the back but instead carry tools, straps, number plates for trailers etc instead.
If indeed people are or are not VAT registered and choose to use their vehicle to ferry their children to school, what business is it of yours any more than it is none of their business that you use a 20 year old Golf? Sounds like an envious whine from where I’m standing. If you have no use for a pickup, that is up to you and you save a lot of money by running the old Golf, for sure.

It specifically says that the VAT position will not change. So have YOU read it properly?
No
You will still be able to claim the Vat back if they have a 1tonne+ payload after July 2024, if I understand it correctly
Just BIK for employees is rising in another ‘stealth tax’

Having re read it again, I think you are both correct.
The issue of non business use will still stand and some day may be picked up and enforced, but I wont hold may breath

I'd expect most of these are bought through businesses to be used as cars, hence the rule change. There's very few in what I would consider "work spec", single or extended cab, white, steel wheels, they're mostly in wife beater/bully spec, clean, nothing in the back expect the kids bikes.

Every time you start your "wife beater" rant it makes me think that you must have come home early once, and found a pickup parked outside your house with the owner "up to the makers plate" with your wife...

Good - but sorry about any farm implications when a crew cab is desirable.

I have friend in non ag business who has a company Amarok.
When I took the pee, he said it was purely a tax decision.
