Cruelty reports at Wrexham abattoir

On tonight's BBC Welsh news there was film taken by hidden cameras showing severe mistreatment of sheep at
Farmers Fresh abattoir at Wrexham
This is something I absolutely hate seeing and should be broadcast

Just needs cctv installing like in English abattoirs
...........and it also begs the question, 'Where was the resident vet when this was all going on?'

Apart from the fact that this sort of thing should never happen, it comes a a time when it just fuels the anti-meat brigade

I always thought of Farmers Fresh as being a 'cut above' the big boys. It just shows what goes wrong when firms have to get bigger and bigger to produce meat down to a price :(

Big fine called for, IMHO.

The set up is completely unacceptable, looks like someone decided to install the elevator but never got the pen altered. Far to many corners and blind spots, seen these elevators working when set up properly and they never touch a sheep. Also the chap with the reader should be at the top of the elevator, how the heck is he supposed to read them before they go on.
Lastly the vets can be very intimidated by the staff and management, still no excuse mind but it’s a management issue. A grand spent on a better pen would save all the hassle

If a vet can be intimidated in such a situation then they lack moral courage and they’re not fit for purpose.

Have you seen some of the 'vets' on these lines?

Certainly not James Herriot types, but more likely a freshly qualified young girl from foreign shores. Are they going to stand up to burley slaughterman and abattoir owners that probably despise them being there !!

It’s their job.

In addition, I’ve seen some young girls that can stand up to anyone. In such situations physical size is of little significance, it’s not an arm wrestling contest.
