Current market price for roof mounted pv

just doing some sums.

What would a 50 kw system cost for a rooftop set up on a typical portal framed ag building?

What / are there any tariffs worthy? If things go to plan site will use all the energy mon - Saturday, just wondering if it is worth it...

with PV the sweet spot is 30kw, we have installed a couple of hundred systems on farms over the last few years and with PV below 30kw you do not require an import/export meter, so they assume you are exporting 50% even if you are actually exporting only 10%, the present rate is 4.32p plus the export rate of 5.03p so if you generate 20,000 kwh you will get paid for that at 4.32p then half of that you will get paid again for so 10,000 kwh at 5.03p. if you are paying 15p for your electric just over 5 year payback is possible, once you go over 30kw an import export meter is required and there is an annual charge for this,

So what sort of money we talking to install a 30kw system now?

If you WILL use all the power generated it should wipe it's eye. To do this you will need to be using 40kw at lunchtime in the summer.

with PV the tariff has come down a lot but so has the cost of the installation and 10year warranty is standard now on the inverters. the panels are very reliable, you can get the odd issue on cabling to the panels if it is not routed and located correctly and most important it has to kept out of the sun. sun light wrecks everything. the cabling is very heavily insulated just like a spark plug leads, it is the mc4 connectors that have to be carefully located and strapped up behind the panel so as not to get wet. with farm buildings you get long cable runs, if you are going to have a long cable run it is better to have long AC cable run rather long DC cable runs. long DC runs reduces out put and causes routing issues. better to locate the inverter as close as poss to the string area to be connected to that particular inverter.

we are based right at the top of England, any further and you need your passport. we cover Cumbria and south west Scotland, we also cover the renewable energy for Aspatria farmers, it is a farming co-op with quite a lot of members.
