Cutting metal

Currently using a evolution circular saw with steel cutting blade for cutting sheet steel lengths but need to change as I’m getting fed up with paying £50 for a blade that only lasts a couple of cuts so was curious as to what everyone else uses for cutting ?
Have oxy propane which can be used for thick stuff but what’s best for under 10mm ? Plasma cutter maybe?

I also have an evolution saw, handy for cutting box (I have sharpened blades on a bench grinder, which worked well). But for cutting sheet I have a GYS plasma - I can’t believe I managed without it!

Tonight for example I cut 14ft ( not all at once I’ve added up the total) of 8mm steel and after that the blade wouldn’t cut without forcing it

I think you’re using the wrong tool for the job. I would get a plasma or sub out to a laser/plasma firm.

When you say sheet steel lengths are you talking about 8x4 sheets of steel or 100mm x 10mm lengths of steel and 50mm x 50mm box iron

Thanks all for the replies , plasma cutter sounds like the best solution , think I was abit naive believing evolutions website that the circular saw would cut 80metres of 12mm plate !!

Sorry I misread the original post.

I have a big cast treadle guillotine, perfect if you want straight cuts. Anything else, plasma. Or get it lasered. You'd be surprised how cheap it is.

Plasma cutter for sheets upto 8mm
Gas for plate
Evolution chopsaw for box section and hollow pipe
Portaband milwaukee saw for anything I can’t be arsed setting up the big saw
9” Horizontal bandsaw for cutting anything else.

there’s a company which makes blades called “metal beast” which last longer than evolutions own. Once you chip the carbide they just wander for fun.

I would be hesitant to do much beyond 6mm on a hand held evo in any quantity because you need to have the tooth angle and feed rate just right to prevent wear on the tooth profile. Also, any uneven pressure will push the blade off axis & wear the sides of the teeth. I'd probably also be using a bit of molyslip to help stop galling. Plasma is probably the most flexible solution.
