I have been using a local limed paper product for the last six years but will have to find an alternative for next winter as our ph levels are almost now to high as a result! I cannot use sand as my pumping slurry contractor wont touch us if we do; so could I have peoples thoughts/experiences please as to alternatives without costing the earth as we use quite a lot to keep dairy cows clean.

Where do u get the limed paper product from? Cost?
Tbh sawdust and a small amount of powder disinfectant does pretty well if kept clean I think the bacteria builds up in sawdust if u put on loads and leave it but little and often works well here

edgar f shephard is the cheapest i can find for delivery to here for sawdust our cell counts have never been lower and mastitis is negligible mix with a little lime cows are very clean i have not wiped a cow since last summer since we moved from straw

We use a sawdust product from N W Resources based not too far from the op in Wrexham. They have a range of bedding products so a good place to catch up with them is at the dairy event where you can see touch and feel the various products for yourself.
