Hi all we are looking at upgrading our existing alfa laval memory box at back of parlour currently just type in ammount of cake each cow has as she enters parlour .We have been looking at replacing it with a dvlec box to control the feeders but would realy like to go up to the dfms box that davlec make which allows connection to pc and ear tag readers so this then as i understand it would feed the cows according to yeild that we enter into the pc on a 2/4 week basis i guess was just wondering if anybody had a system in place like this and your thoughts please

I wired my feeders up to my wesfalia milk meters,I was quoted over £1200 for the control box but I used 24v relays instead (cost me about £120 in parts) :)

Previously we had a keypad at the back of the parlour that you typed the amount into (was bloody annoying if you missed a cow as you had to enter 12 cows again) (n)

It saves a lot of time and leg work feeding via a computer, also helps if you have different people milking.(y)

We had a box at the back our old alfa which was programmable so you entered the cow number and it would feed the preset amount for that cow. We had vacuum operated feeders, dont know if it could be made to work with electric ones but is for sale.

The original Davlec DFMS System is an old system that has not been on the market for several years, although you may find 2nd user systems. You can find information and manuals for most current Davlec equipment on the website http://www.davlec.com (not .co.uk!) or give them a call. There are several options for "memory" feeding depending on your parlour size and where you would like your controller(s) situated.
In Davlec parlance a Memfeed implies you enter the cow number as she comes in and it feeds a pre-programmed quantity and a Fastfeed means you enter the feed quantity
A new system is under development using ear tags, this will be undergoing field trials very soon and should be very competitive. Unlike the old DFMS system it does not require a PC to run, everything is controlled from the small console with easy to use menu system, keypad and alphanumeric display. There will be the option to connect it to a PC if required where 3rd party software will be able to communicate with it.
