DB 996

Hi, any help would be gratefully received

I have a 996 which is still actively used around the farm doing light work. Just recently I noticed a leak from what I think is a pressure valve. The thing I am trying to describe is on the right hand side by the raise and lower lever. It has a round top which can be lifted. This has not caused a problem until I put the hedge cutter on.

As you can tell I am a bit of a novice so any help would be great

Regards

Sean

SO n' SO's, I've just logged into the DBTC & the last time was Oct. last year, didn't realise they would lock people out for inactivity, perhaps you could try registering again, but someone will be along here shortly to help you out I reckon.

That is the dump valve you are describing, it is used when lowering a trailer to speed up the drop. It can be removed by unscrewing the nut on its base. There are O rings in it which may have perished.
Is the hedge cutter powered from the tractor hydraulics, if so where is the return pipe plumbed to?
When we were using a block cutter on our 996 years ago we had the return plumbed in through the filler plug on the right side on the rear bell housing where the PTO is attached, reason being the hydraulic pump is in there.

That isn't the correct place to return oil. Returning it there can starve the transmission's lubrication system. Oil should either be returned into the front port on the camels hump or into the port on the top, left hand side of the rear axle, behind the 3 way valve

I think you are on about the dump valve? The round mushroom type knob behind the raise and lower lever, turn it a quarter or a turn to raise, and another to lock?

Give Barclay Williams a call, he can send you a recon valve, or a seal kit.

Thank you. I read this on my phone last night and missed the bit about Barclay Williams so have ordered the seal kit, but a good contact to have.

What does the dump valve do?

Have you taken any land out of production from last autumn?
