As the title says how about DD 6 row W Barley into ww stubble + chopped straw,Anyone done it ?
Heavy land but the soil is in good nick,Just concerned W Barley can be a sensitive plant
Personally not worried about the chopped straw Last year in a min till situtation had chopped and baled straw and the barley in the chopped straw looked better than the baled by Dec where the straw trails were was looking sick .
Any comments
TIA

I'm worried about wheat volunteers in that situation. I think we'll lightly cultivate first.
Personally would grow Wb after ww, hybrid helps smother ww but still get through
Green grains in sample, spray off with roundup
Ah darn don't have any
Plough?

I have found WB to be hardier than wheat so think you'd be fine

We've grown some (for the first time under dd) behind Spring barley. It came through winter looking a bit ropey (mostly due to a local rabbit problem) , but filled in amazingly well and looks lovely now. As above, I'd be a bit nervous of volunteer wheat, but for feed barley not a great problem. It's a pleasingly low input, high output crop...
