Heard today of two big main dealers not taking trade in s .
One is carrying. Multimillions in stock, think there are going to be several go bang. How long can you turnover 150m and only make 2m profit whilst carrying millions in stock. You don't need much to go wrong before your re in the sh!t.

Even those that will take a trade just quote an underwrite price. I understand the rationale, but it removes any responsibility for the competitiveness of the price.

The must be a better way. Some will say private sell. A lot of farmers still would prefer to buy from a dealer, and those trade dealers are quite happy to buy on their terms as underwriters, so won't be keen to be on the back foot by answering classified ads.

tricky One as we all know most dealers are sat on an awful lot of value of used stock at high prices so not keen on adding to it. But unless the part ex price is tempting farmers won’t do the deal on the new improved model.

Be more dealer fire sales going forwards and more dealers going under.

Ive said before the really big boys the banks will be losing more sleep than the directors….

and as for the mark up on used kit the dealers don’t always get it right. I’ve just swapped a baler and know the dealer I got it from has had to dip in to the mark up on a couple of other machines to get out as paid too much for it in the first place and had to spend a fortune sorting it As major issues were missed. However I’ve gained as a 5 figure sum a has been spent on the machine I bought…

In the vast majority of cases trade ins are far more hassle than they are worth with farmers often having unrealistic expectations of value and shock horror are sometimes economical with the truth
I do wonder where a lot of second hand stuff ends up

The 4-5 year old machinery often looks expensive compared to something abit older and a lot cheaper

or something brand new on 0% with warranty

I don't think this is anything new, or a surprise? For years now the vast majority of kit is underwritten that comes back in. Perhaps they're less keen to have a punt and offer stronger money than the underwriters the last year or so?

Need to be a bit careful what I say but we have just had the following occur. We had an item we wanted to change and its worth £30,000. A new version of roughly the same item is £100,000 depending on final spec.
Our local dealer offered us £8,000 for our trade in against £98,000 for a new version. We declined the deal.

I then went to cereals and ended up speaking to the manufacturer about the new machine who has since sold me one directly cutting my local dealer out of the equation. Ive paid £90,000 for the same spec as my dealer quoted me. And sold my trade in privately for £29,250. All transactions are completed and I have a full warranty on the new item.
The machinery industry is in a very big mess if you ask me when manufacturers are selling direct behind their dealers backs. And delivery 2 weeks as it was a uk stock item.

I went to change an item a couple of weeks ago. The new’er one I was trying to buy was £25,000 the old one we were offended £3500 for but was told we could get £5000 as that was its value. Wasn’t impressed.

The difference is the dealer is expected to give a warranty on the one he trades from you & you don’t ! The dealer was being honest with you in my opinion about the trade in you could have sold it yourself . Then you would have all & sundry wasting your time not turning up etc

I’m not wanting to name anyone but the last couple of times I’ve just swapped for money and the old one. The deal isn’t off the table but not impressed. There’s been no warranty on previous times they can just put it through an auction or shift it onto another dealer the problem is there’s obviously little demand so by doing what they are there’s less demand from this end too
