The Time has Come and my Dad passed away last Thurday night.šŸ˜

Not Covid ,at home, with us after a terminal illness peacefully.

No doubt few on here been through it in this Pandemic and unprecedented times too.

Only 30 in Church ,no singing ,masks, distancing etc etc NOT GOOD in a normal year without all of this.

Any pointers ,info ,welcome.
Kind regards.

Sorry for the loss of your Dad. :(

If you have specific queries @Lowland1 might be helpful as he lost his father recently too. Hope it's okay to tag him...

Sorry for your loss @Still Farming .

If of help, the funeral I attended last year was held at graveside ~ the Church being too small under current rules. It was simple, and although short, everything that needed to be said was said. Prayers, etc, a short eulogy, and one of the immediate family brought some music that was meaningful for the family on their phone (or possibly ipod) that was played as we filed past the grave to read the nameplate.

I'm not sure how it was arranged, but understand that neighbours and friends who couldn't attend stood and paid respects along the way, as the hearse and mourners drove to Church.

Lack of funeral tea did feel unusual, but there was opportunity to have a few words after the service. It was a welcome catch up for all of us, and a good send off, albeit different.

Thoughts to you and yours.

My Dad died about a month ago but because we are out of the country it has taken us a while to get sorted plus we want to do things a bit differently. We are having a burial at home on the farm. We did this for my Mum about 15 years ago and it went very well. The hole was dug this morning and we will be doing the funeral tomorrow. My Dad didn't want a big funeral anyway so this has worked well the Agricultural Chaplain will say a few words and that will probably be it. i am borrowing a few small bales for people to sit on though some will just stay in their cars. There will be tea and sausage rolls for those who want and if more than 30 arrive we can stagger things. The funeral director has been very good but I think we are lucky that we aren't looking at a Church service or the Crematorium. I was talking to a neighbour today who reckoned that my Mums funeral was as good a funeral as you could go to if you can have a good funeral especially the bit where his brother was sent in the Grave to retrieve the racket straps they'd used to lower the coffin into the hole as Dad wasn't going to lose them. There is a new bypass that has been built around Lincoln and Dad watched the progress carefully but was never able to go on it so the Undertaker will take him on it before he comes to us. My Dads death was a blessing and as such not a shock. What I would say is find a good funeral director and that will make it easier for you.

Few funeral directors about and to get quotes is not nice thing to do but it has to be done.

I was at a funeral service last year, via a live webcast, of a fellow member of our cattle breed society. The camera was at the back of the room so we could see the service almost as if we were there sitting in a seat. The family emailed the link to the webcast as well as instructions on how to join and also the order of service a few days beforehand.

It was a lovely service, done by the minister, and members of the family stood up and spoke about their dad. There were about 30 folk there.

No singing of course but a couple of songs were played, one of which was Don William's 'You're My Best Friend'.

My Dad had chosen the funeral director years ago. Everytime we drove past he would tell me that's the man he wanted to deal with him. When my mum was buried she was lowered into the ground to Don Williams singing "You're my best Friend" and Dad who went to see Don Williams everytime he was in UK will probably go to the same.

Sorry for your loss.
As has been mentioned, I too have "attended" a funeral over a video link.
On another occasion we went with many others and lined the farm drive as they left for the church. It was a long drive so plenty of distancing.

My old chap died last month , you need to get on to the funeral directors pretty sharp , they will do everything which is valuable . shouldn't worry about the money.
Getting a funeral date can be problematic
As Village Church it can be anytime unlike Crem that most probably full until end of March???
