Dehorning anaesthetic

went to buy a few bottles at Wynnstay (other agricultural merchants are available) only to be told it was out of stock and it could be September before they have fresh supplies. Same at CCF - although they thought two weeks.
Apparently to do with the Chinese manufacturer allowing a licence to run out so batches now have to be quarantined for a month before release

Anyone else come across this?

Yes vets are keeping it for emergency op's only for over a month now. With us the Bloody stuff hardly ever works on dehorning !!

Mole Valley told me the same but luckily our vets have managed to import some from Ireland, the only difference is it has to be kept in the fridge. I can’t remember the name of it but can find out for you

I heard this back in April that supplies would not be replenished till September so I stocked up on 12 bottles.

Still have to use local even if you knock them out otherwise they just feel the pain when they wake up

There was a problem with manufacturing. I remember it being from Ireland for some reason. Anyhow, plenty of another brand can be brought in from Holland I think in 250ml bottles, same price. The vets also have little snap vials of other stuff which is probably double price but the original juice didn’t cost much anyway.

Pretty sure we use the same practice, one of their vets said they'd had a supply from Germany. Not sure if they are keeping it for themselves though.

Our vets are importing Pronestesic . It's the same product under a different brand with foreign labels on. I've dehorned 200+ with it this spring with no issues

It's vastly overrated anyway. The buds will be sore for a long time after the local has worn off. But it makes humans feel better about it, which is the main benefit.

Well feed and activity rates are far better if NSAIDs are used as pain relief so I don’t think it’s all to make people feel better about it.
