Delapidation bill of 50k but then we don't have to pay it

As I have said here before we are facing eviction but there is something strange about it and that is when we first had notice to quit we were sent a huge bill for nearly 50 k for delapidation and it filled a big file but when I queried it saying how do you expect us to pay that the reply was we don't have to pay it has anyone else come across this

way back i remember an aged relative who was a tenant of the church commissioners, he was contacted by his land agent who said he had someone who wanted to rent his farm and who was willing to pay a large sum for him to relinquish his tenancy he thought this was a good idea and it would give him a lump sum to retire with. but the agent then came round and checked for delapidations noted every cracked window staples in trees cracks in the concrete in fact what it would take to make the farm purfect, the bill bankrupted the old boy

Did they then go and make the farm perfect for the next tenant or let it to him and expect him to repair and maintain it.

The answer to that is to read your lease very carefully and get your agent to make an equally long list of all the things the landlord has failed to do.
