Interesting question. I am not keen on the 'deselection' weapon as used by the Momentum rabble and other JC acolytes. However, when a sitting M.P. either goes against a manifesto commitment / personal promise, or resigns from the party with which he was elected, I think a by-election should be automatically triggered.
The old argument of Burke's regarding an M.P.'s representation and judgement, while having been valid when first made, is now comprehensively debunked in all but the most day-to-day matters. M.P.s are elected for the party - or potential P.M. - that they affiliate with, not as individuals, and they know this but pretend otherwise, be it for reasons of vainglory or contempt for their electorate - or both.
This isn't a party-political matter or view, so most voters would probably agree with most of this.
Never hear or read anything at all from my MP (Conservative - Broadland Constituency ) from one election to the next, have no idea on his current voting record.
My MP subsequently admitted that she did not even vote in the Brexit Referendum.
As a consequence I fully expect her to Vote as her constitutents did and that was remain.
